A more intricate paradiddle orchestration idea that involves basing rolls around cymbals rather than drums.
In this paradiddle orchestration lesson you will be focusing on using cymbals such as the ride and hi hat for roll construction rather than drums. In some cases the difficulty is increased because of the addition of bass drums with these cymbals. Although these exercises may be a little more difficult, they will greatly improve both your playing ability in terms of independance and co ordination whilst developing your musical vocabulary.
In all exercises a paradiddle sticking is used. As with all orchestration exercises, remove the feet if you are struggling then add them back later.
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of at least 125bpm.
- Create your own orchestrations using this concept. Write down at least 2 of these.
- Experiment with different feet patterns for each exercise.
