Swiss Army Triplet With A Moving Left Hand

In this lesson you will be learning an orchestration of the swiss army triplet which will, in most cases, result in the hands crossing over. In all of the exercises presented on this page the left hand will move around various parts of the kit whilst the right stays on the snare. This idea has been applied in many other rudiments so is hopefully a familiar concept. The difficult part of this exercise is when the left plays a floor tom as this means it will have the cross over the right that is planted on the snare. Be very aware of your movements at these points and be careful not to knock the sticks out of your hand.

In this rudiment the left hand ends up playing a swung eighth note triplet which will be more prominent in this orchestration. The movements in these exercises can get very tricky, particularly when the tempo gets higher. Start the parts off slowly then gradually increase speed as you get more comfortable with the note placement. You will soon notice that your right hand is going to be jumping about all over the place. When you reach the higher tempos these orchestrations sound great.

If the feet are throwing you off feel free to remove them until you are comfortable with the hand part. Remember to use the swiss army triplet 'Both Right Left' sticking throughout.
