Groups Of 1 Bar Syncopated 6's Fills

The fills presented in this lesson will be similar to other 'imitation' based fills and exercises and you can find links to these at the bottom of the page. Through this lesson all patterns will be built of six 16th notes on the hands played as single strokes, followed by the same rhythm played on the feet using two bass drum pedals. This is a common rhythm that has been used many times in previous levels and you will hopefully know by now that that will leave one beat of fill at the end of the bar. This 'left over' section can be filled with anything you can think of and I have used a different idea in each given example. Listed below are various ideas for orchestrating the syncopated rhythm.

Example 1

A fill using groups of 6 and double kicks.

Example 2

A fill using groups of 4 and double kicks

Example 3

A fill using groups of 4 and double kicks.

Example 4

A fill using groups of 4 and double kicks.

Example 5

A fill using groups of 4 and double kicks.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all examples up to a tempo of around 150bpm.
  2. Experiment with shortening the length of all fills.
  3. Add all fills to a structured piece.
  4. Create your own versions of these fills
