Using The Once Per Drum Orchestration In 6/8 (Single Stroke 7 Fill)

For these Single Stroke Seven fills you will switch the time signature to 6/8 then apply the once per drum orchestration from our initial rudiment lesson series. as in the similar lesson in 4/4, linked below, you will be learning these fills as part of a four bar pattern. In all exercises on this page you will be presented with an 'AAAB' style pattern where 'B' is a single stroke 7 fill using one of the original orchestrations of the rudiment. You will only be using two parts of the kit in each pattern so this should hopefully be fairly straight forward.

Because of the natural rhythm of this rudiment, part of the fill will be a break in rhythm when you hit the last note. Adding little stops like this can make the fill stand out even more.

For each given part, make sure you can play the fill before you do anything. Take it slow if necessary and remember that the accuracy of your part is far more important than tempo. When playing the full four bars make sure there are no gaps between the groove and fill. Feet have been included in some patterns but feel free to either remove or change them as you wish. I have also shown different lengths of fill in the list below.

REMEMBER the sticking for a single stroke seven is 'R L R L R L R'.
