The Single Stroke 5 With Orchestrated Quarter Note Accents

In this lesson you will be taking the Single Stroke 5 in its standard 'on the beat' form and playing it on the snare drum. Then any time a numbered count is played, that note will be orchestrated to another part of the kit. The same idea has been applied to many rudiments, including the Single Stroke Roll. If you have covered that lesson already this one will be far more straight forward.

I have shown several versions of this orchestration concept below. Feet and sticking have been included in each.

Exercise 1

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 2

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 3

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 4

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 5

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

Exercise 6

A single stroke 5 orchestration.

TASK

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all 6 exercises up to a tempo of at least 135bpm.
  2. Create your own versions of these exercises by mixing up the orchestration and feet patterns.

I recomend covering our lesson on the Single Stroke Seven Sticking next.
