The 9 Stroke Roll Moving In Crotchet Blocks

This lessons follows on from our 16th Note 9 Stroke Roll Sticking and 16th Note 9 Stroke Roll With Each Hand On A Different Drum lessons. It will be much easier to follow if you are familiar with the content from that lesson.

In this orchestration concept the rudiment will be played around the kit switching voice every numbered count. For example, in the first exercise the first 16th note block is on the snare, the second block is on the high tom and a minim is played on the floor tom. This is a fairly simple orchestration, the intention of which is to start your hands moving around in this rudiment.

Remember, you hands will always be playing a 9 stroke roll sticking in all exercises on this page. I have included feet in all exercises, it may be worth removing them whilst you are learning the orchestration then adding them back in later. Experiment with using different feet patterns from our previous lessons. I have also included the two different timings of the rudiment, one starting on the beat and one ending on the beat.
