Some ideas for fill construction using a set rhythm in the time signature of 3/4.
In this lesson you will be learning some fills in the time signature of 3/4 that are all built using the rhythm '1 + 2e a3e+a'. This rhythm is then orchestrated around the kit in familiar movements. The aim of this lesson is to give you some new and interesting fill ideas in this time signature whilst not getting too complicated. At the bottom of the page you will find a list of links to lessons that may be useful when learning this part.
I have shown the rhythm that will be used through all fills below. Spend some time getting comfortable with the timing and sticking.
- Learn the examples shown above up to a tempo of at least 130bpm.
- Create your own variations on each example by experimenting with the orchestration.
- Add the fills into a structured pattern.
- Try constructing similar fills by varying the rhythm.
