'A A B' Structure In 5/8 Using Two Bar Grooves

An example of this simple six bar phrasing idea in the time signature of 5/8.

In this lesson you will be learning a simple variation on the A A A A A B structural in 5/8 idea that involves using two bar grooves. If you haven't already, it is worth looking over the lesson (linked at the bottom of the page) to learn about how this structure works and why you might use it.

To construct this part you will create a two groove and play it twice then have a two bar section that will have some form of variation. The feel of this will be more of an 'A A B' pattern but with each section doubled up. That structure will look like this:

A six bar phrase made up of three 2 bar section.

The intention of this lesson is to try and familiarize you with this style of pattern whilst playing in the time signature of 5/8. The exercises shown below will just be a new combination of existing groove and fill ideas, it is the 'cut short' feel of the six bar phrase that you are working on.

Listed below are several example of this structure with a drum kit part applied. I have used a variety of different construction ideas but feel free to create your own parts.
